About Longboat Pass

Longboat Pass carries water between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf. On strong fall ebbs, bait leaving the bay and schools traveling the beaches meet at the pass.

Coquina Beach and the bridge area give shore access on the north side.

Why fish here during the run

• A compact pass with strong ebb currents.
• Beach-traveling schools and bay exits overlap here.
• Snook and jacks feed along the pass edges.

Angler tips

• Fish the strongest part of the ebb after a front.
• Work the beach just north of the pass when schools stack against it.
• Be careful of fast water off the point.

Access & conditions notes

• Coquina Beach has a large parking area.
• Wind, pressure, and water temperature come from the NOAA St. Petersburg station.
